Modes of Delivery

Labour is an exciting new experience for all first-time mothers. Use the points below to guide yourself towards a smoother journey and to stay informed.

The baby is often born within 12 hours from the start of contractions but can take longer in some cases. You can still eat, drink, walk about and go to the bathroom during the delivery. Regular, controlled breathing is the best way to stay relaxed and work through early pains.

If you feel the need to defecate, notify the doctor or midwife immediately as the baby may be ready to deliver. When the doctor or midwife instructs you to push, follow their guidance.

Right after the baby is born, hold the baby close to your chest. This starts the lifelong mother-child bond and prepares the baby for feeding.  Let the baby search for your nipples. These simple steps also help prevent further bleeding and begin the production of breast milk.
